Update: Naughty Dog has released a statement.

Sony has confirmed reports Wednesday of Amy Hennig, the writer and creative director of the "Uncharted" series, departing from Naughty Dog.

IGN broke the news, as their trusted sources reported on Hennig's final day at the acclaimed game studio was March 3rd. The report goes that Hennig, who was writing and directing "Uncharted 4," was forced out by Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley, the creative team behind "The Last of Us." Supposedly, "Uncharted 4" will now be under their control. Both men were involved with the previous "Uncharted" games. After IGN published the rumor, Sony responded back with a confirmation.

We can confirm that Amy Hennig has left Naughty Dog. Amy has made significant contributions to the game industry and we appreciate all she has done for Naughty Dog. The development timeline of Uncharted will not be impacted.

It needs to be stated that Sony has only confirmed Hennig's departure from Naughty Dog and nothing else from the rumor. As of now, Hennig, Druckmann, Straley, nor Naughty Dog has issued a statement on the matter.

It was only recently that Hennig celebrated her tenth anniversary at Naughty Dog, as she worked on "Uncharted 4" for the PS4. In addition to her credit on the "Uncharted" series, she previously wrote and directed the "Legacy of Kain" games for Crystal Dynamics. IGN highlighted her contribution to Naughty Dog last year and was even profiled by the Los Angeles Times back in 2010. Whatever the reason for Hennig leaving the studio, this is a heavy blow to Naughty Dog and "Uncharted" fans.
