The UMBC Retrievers trail Stony Brook 9-6 at halftime, despite falling behind 5-2 after the first quarter.
The Retrievers played the Seawolves to a tie in the second period, 4-4, after going down 8-3 midway through the quarter.
Stony Brook has won 11-of-17 face-offs, but UMBC has forced five turnovers and holds a 20-15 edge in ground balls.
Senior goalkeeper Kevin Kohri, who coach Don Zimmerman said last week should remain in goal for the rest of the season, has saved four shots, but has been victimized by occasional defensive breakdowns committed by the Retrievers.
Matt Latham has scored two goals for UMBC.
