The Reno Events Center played host to Rick Collup’s Ultimate Reno Combat 44 on Saturday, October 5. The 44th event for this local MMA promotion featured 11 hard-hitting MMA Cage fights, including a title fight in the Main Event, which was won by Tyler Cowan of Reno Academy of Combat. Fights on the under card were won by Nick Grill, Moikeha Kanealii, Patrick Keating, Kevin Burrage, Sean Tucker, Phil Wilson, Justin Durham, Jordan Raulston and Lucas Gubbins. The female fight in the Co-Main Event was won by Aspen Ladd of MMA Gold.
Fultz vs. Grill
In a debut match for both fighters Nick Grill of MMA Gold defeated Finley Fultz of Reno Academy of Combat at 1:20 in the first round by TKO due to referee stoppage.
Newcomer vs. Kanealii
Moikeha Kanealii (debut) of Performance Grappling defeated Mitch Newcomer (0-1) of Petaluma, California by TKO at 1:06 in the first round.
Phillips vs. Keating
In a debut match for both fighters Patrick Keating of Sonoma Cobra Kai defeated Johnny Phillips of Reno Academy of Combat by rear naked choke at 2:26 in the second round.
Perez vs. Burrage
Kevin Burrage of MMA Gold made an impressive debut by submitting Abner Perez (1-1) of No Limit at 1:09 in the first round.
Tucker vs. Kirby
Sean Tucker (1-0) from Reno Academy of Combat defeated James Kirby (debut) of Team Vicious by way of knockout at 39 seconds into the first round.
Wilson vs. Lewis
Phil Wilson (2-2) defeated Dan Lewis (4-2) of Amazonas BJJ by TKO at 2:29 in the second round.
Medina vs. Durham
Justin Durham (3-0) of Folsom, California representing MMA Gold defeated Jose Medina (3-2) of South Lake Tahoe, California. Durham took Medina to ground immediately and finished with a TKO due to ground and pound at 1:41 in round one.
Raulston vs. Vandiest
Jordan Raulston (0-1) of Reno Academy of Combat defeated Stacy Vandiest (debut) of Team Pride by way of unanimous decision.
Jones vs. Gubbins
Lucas Gubbins (2-1) of MMA Gold defeated Bryan Jones (4-1)
Babaeghian vs. Ladd
Aspen Ladd (5-0) of MMA Gold defeated Silvia Babaeghian (0-1) of Reno Academy of Combat after 3 grueling rounds in the cage.
