The Reno Events Center played host to Rick Collup’s Ultimate Reno Combat 43 on August 24. Fights on the under card were won by Pablo Torres, Christian Espinosa, Hailey Meyer, Danny Ramirez, Aarason Perry, Brando Amaro, Brandon Laroco and Tyler Cowan.
The single under-18 Pankration bout, where no head shots are allowed, was won by Jose Cozares of Carson City Boxing.
Torres vs. Thompson
In a Heavyweight debut match for both fighters, Pablo Torres of Britto MMA defeated Tyrone Thompson of Weapons Factory by unanimous decision.
Espinosa vs. Rodriguez
In a lightning fast 14 second round Christian Espinosa (4-0) of Asylum fight team knocked out Jesus Rodriguez (2-3) of360 Martial Arts.
Meyer vs. Raulston
The evening's third fight was in the women's division and Jordan Raulston of the Reno Academy of Combat made her debut against Hailey Meyer (0-1) of Team Ronin. This was one of those fights where as a reporter you are glad you are not a judge. The two ladies went the distance and it was originally reported as a split-decision for Raulston. However, later in the evening it was reversed and majority decision was given to Meyer. Whether it was a scorecard error or not has yet to be revealed, but it sounds like the stuff that a good rematch is made from.
Ramirez vs. Sewell
On the heels of that match, Danny Ramirez (3-1) of Mountain Warrior fight team defeated Adam "AJ" Sewell (3-3) of Team Ronin by a TKO in the first round.
Perry vs. Meyer
Up next, Aarason Perry (3-0) of Ironpit fight team defeated Jerry Hickman of Britto MMA by first round TKO.

Laroco vs. Simpson
In a 135 lbs contest, Brandon Laroco (6-0) of Team Asylum defeated Trevor Simpson (1-0) of Team Ronin at 2:59 in the first round by TKO due to knee strikes.
Cowan vs. Carrino
In what was probably the Submission of the Night and the final fight of the under card, Tyler Cowan (9-4) of Reno Academy of Combat defeated Cory Carrino (2-4) of ADSEG fight team at 14 seconds into round one by way of Guillotine choke.
Norton vs. Carpenter
In the first half of the Main Event Auttumn Norton (3-1) of Ironpit fight team defeated Brieta Carpenter (3-0) of KRU fight team by a first round TKO to claim the Ultimate Reno Combat 135lb Women's Title.
Smith vs. Gamble
In the final fight of the evening, Sinjen Smith (4-0) of Reno Academy of Combat successfully defended his Ultimate Reno Combat Lightweight Title by defeating Rob Gamble (5-5) from Ronin MMA by way of a devastating knockout. Gamble had to be medevaced from the cage after being on the receiving end of Smith's kick and 3 follow up shots. Smith was visibly upset at the end results, but that is one of the hazards of the sport. We wish Rob Gamble a speedy recovery from his injury..
Ultimate Reno Combat 44 is scheduled for October 5, 2013 at the Reno Events Center.
