Uli Jon Roth played a two hour plus tribute to his old band The Scorpions during a blistering show last night. Feb 13 at the Sellersville Theater. This guitar virtuoso delivered an amazing show, as he belted out such gems as "Pictured Life" and "Catch Your Train". Watching Roth play was an experience. He never looked at the fretboard of his guitar. He just played.
There was no opening act. The weather forecast was for snow. That kept people away. Those in attendance would like to think that Roth's show kept the snow from sticking , it was that good. This tour is to commemorate Roth's time with the Scorpions. He was the lead guitarist just before they really took off in the late 1970's. As he promised during the pre show interview that was done with Examiner.com much of that material would be played.
Thankfully, the crowd was familiar with Roth's music and there were no lame requests for Scorpions music he never played on. At certain stops along the venue, he is doing small clinics called Sky Academies . One such class was held in Sellersville.. About 17 people showed up in the middle of the afternoon to be taught by a master.
Speaking with people that did go, guitar experience was not required to attend,. Uli taught about clearing one's mind to concentrate on the art . That could be transcended to painting, or any kind of art. Of course, for those that did bring a guitar, there were intense lessons being taught.
The show at Sellersville was recorded live for a new double CD and DVD that will be released later in the year. That CD will have music from just about every show on this tour. To learn more about Uli Jon Roth or find out when he is playing in your area go here.
