Hours ago, the United States Department of Justice announced that Maksym Shynkarenko, a Ukrainian man, pleaded guilty to being one of the largest child pornographer on record. According to the DOJ, Shynkarenko, 35, of Kharkov, Ukraine, has admitted to one count of conducting a child exploitation enterprise for running the site between 2005 and 2008. According to the 32-count Indictment unsealed this morning Maksym Shynkarenko, 33, of Kharkov, Ukraine, was charged with numerous child exploitation charges which arose after an investigation led to the convictions of more than 560 American consumers, in 47 states,. Those convictions were based on the hardcore images of children being sexually assaulted and abused, which were purchased from the website that Shynkarenko owned.

U.S Attorney Paul J Fishman stated that, “According to the Indictment, Maksym Shynkarenko profited from the unspeakable abuse of thousands of innocent children by selling access to their suffering through his website. He continued, ““Distributors and consumers of child pornography create a market for sexual assaults on children, where the victimization of those children is refreshed with every download.” The case of Shynkarenko has been a long venture. The investigation was initiated after agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations, found the website through emails sent from a computer in New Jersey in 2005. Shynkarenko was held in Thailand for 3-1/2 years before making his initial court appearance in Newark, New Jersey, in June 2012. He faced a 32-count indictment for conspiracy, advertising and transportation of child pornography that called for up to life in prison. Fishman stated that, "Shynkarenko worked the supply side of a market that sells images of the most depraved, predatory abuse of children.” The criminal complaint goes on to say that Shynkarenko, who was working with others, including someone from Siberia, was the operator of a website from the Ukraine, advertising the images under the name “Illegal. CP” and “Pedo Heaven.

U.S. District Judge William Walls sentenced Shynkarenko to 30 years in prison and most likely will be deported when he's sentenced is finished. Walls addressed Shynkarenko and said, "You have pleaded guilty to one of the most serious crimes imaginable in our culture as human beings, and that "I can't think of anything more horrific.” The sentence was part of a plea deal made, in early January, five years after his arrest in Thailand and 18 months after his extradition to the U.S.
