In celebration of the 10th anniversary of the founding of UK Role Players, Dave McAlister commemorated the event with the Golden Crown Awards. Dave has been role-playing for over 30 years, having played and/or run most mainstream systems with the espionage genre being an early favorite. He is currently the webmaster for the Conception and Con-Quest conventions as well as, of course, UK Role Players. He explained the rationale behind the 10-year retrospective:
From a simple idea, the website has grown and developed. Likewise, gaming in the last 10 years has grown and developed. To coincide with the anniversary I thought it would be worthwhile to look back and celebrate the games and people of those years so I opted for a little award.
And the winners are:
- Best Role Playing Game: Contested Ground Studios’ Hot War & Omnihedron Games’ Duty & Honour
- Best Artwork/Production Values in a Role Playing Game: Archaia Entertainment’s Mouse Guard
- Best Supplement for a Role Playing Game: Lamentations of the Flame Princess’ Vornheim: The Complete City Kit
- Best Official Website/Podcast: Kickstarter
- Best Unofficial Website/Podcast: Yog-Sothoth’s Yog Radio
- Best UK Convention: Furnace & IndieCon
