English metal band Unfathomable Ruination has announced that they plan to rage inside a box for as long as they can breathe. Seriously, until they run out of oxygen and pass out. "According to medical professionals, we're all going to die…challenge accepted" the band posted on it's Facebook page. Turns out this isn't just a random, crazy stunt for publicity as it might seem. It's part of a touring art installation called 'Box Sized DIE', created by the Portuguese artist Joao Onofre; and Unfathomable Ruination is not the first to rock out in the box. This is the first time that the exhibit has come to London; it has previously been shown all over Europe in venues like Palais de Tokyo and MACBA. Each time, Onofre invites a different local metal band to participate.
'Scientifically' described in it's listing as an art exhibit on cityoflondon.gov.uk, it reads "The box is soundproofed, determining and restricting the performance’s duration to the length of time in which the oxygen is expended. Outside the cube, viewers observe its strange vibrations, only viewing the band’s entrance and exit to the performance space." Whether they exit conscious or not is anyone's guess. Probably not.
Performance times are July 3rd at 6 & 7 pm and July 4th - August 1st 2014 at 6 pm Wed-Fri. That's a lot of passing out!
The band released an EP called Idiosyncratic Chaos earlier this year. Check out their video for the title track (because you won't be able to hear them in the box). The new single Parthenogenocide comes out tomorrow. Presently, they have over 10,000 likes on their Facebook page and well over 200 likes on the aforementioned status.
They are also touring in Europe.
