UK media outlets with organic followers on Twitter

The social media invasion has transformed how media organizations communicate with the masses online. British news outlets or newspapers continue their push to get new readers via social networking websites like Twitter. A fake follower tool from Socialbakers examined these new agencies and put the legitimacy of their readership to the test.

The British news entities analyzed with the Twitter tool were the following: The Times, The Daily Mail, the Guardian, and The Telegraph. Out of the four the Times ranked first with only 8 percent fake or empty followers with only six percent of inactive readers, according to the report.

The model for business and communication for online journalism is a completely different platform from the old commercial enterprise. Newspapers like the ones in the UK-similarly in other developed countries where the internet is widely available-were forced to adopt a genuine, transparent model on social media sites to attract online readers.

“Fans should be able to trust their media sources no matter which channel they use, so it’s reassuring to know that most these newspapers' Twitter fans are authentic. Become a trustworthy source! Get rid of your Fake Followers!,” according to the digital and social media analytics company.

The Guardian-the second most read online-scored 11 percent fake or empty followership with only seven percent inactive followers. The Daily mail on the other hand accumulated 14 percent of fake or empty followers while managing single digits (eight percent) for inactive accounts following them.

Finally the Daily Telegraph had 16 percent fake to empty followers with nine percent of them inactive. Overall the results suggest that there is strong base of loyal readers following each individual newspaper on the microblogging website.
