A mixed breed dog named Rocky is lucky to be alive. His owner shot him five times in the head, once in the leg, then hit him with a shovel and left him to die in a ditch.
According to Independent.ie, when Marc Turnbull, 38, could not find a new home for his dog, he shot Rocky with an air rifle, thinking it was his only option.
Rocky was found three days later. He was still alive, however, the dog had multiple injuries, including a large, gaping wound on the back of his head.
He had been microchipped, so authorities could trace Rocky back to Turnbull in Northampton.
Turnbull was charged with causing unnecessary suffering to an animal, and on August 27 he was sentenced to jail for 20 weeks. Turnbull was ordered to not keep any animals for 20 years.
After surviving his ordeal, Rocky has since been adopted.
