UIW suffered a heartbreaking defeat on Sunday as the Houston Baptist Women managed a late goal for a 2-1 win over the Cardinals at Benson Stadium.
It was a difficult match played in difficult conditions as both sides struggled to come to grips with the rain that made for a slick surface on the turf at UIW's football venue.
That weather may have played a role in the opening goal as a corner from Sarah Johnson caused havoc in the box and ended when Mikaela Noriega was able to tap home the opening goal for UIW in the 18th minute.
In the 26th minute HBU got back on level terms as Tepekah Tovar was able to find Molly Missimer in space allowing her to shoot and score from just inside the area.
Both teams looked to hold on defensively as they largely canceled each other out, keeping the match deadlocked at one at the break.
The two teams continued to fight each other for possession and control in the second half with Sydney Solomon looking dangerous from UIW but neither side was able to break through the stern defense of their opponents.
The match really found itself stuck in midfield throughout and when the heavens opened again with 15 minutes left in the match it seemed destined to end in a 1-1 draw.
But as the clock started to tick over to 90 minutes Elizabeth Adams hit a shot that bounced back off the post and headed to the far post where Rovar was on hand to tap home the winning goal in the 89th minute to get the Huskies a vital win.
