Jessie Miller scored 20 points, Briana Hinkle came off the bench to add 14 more and Jasmine Bailey was one point short of a double-double with 9 points and 11 boards in the Flames' (11-12, 8-4 Horizon League) Thursday night win over struggling Wright State (8-14, 4-8) at the Pavilion.
Undercut by poor shooting, Wright State trailed by 10 at the half, 24-34, but it was the Flames who ran into trouble in the second half. Making just 8 of 29 from the floor, UIC allowed the Raiders to tie things up with 9 minutes to play, however, UIC quickly capitalized on WSU's foul trouble and unloaded with four free throws and a layup from Bailey to put the Raiders back in the rearview mirror for the rest of the game. 18 UIC turnovers made it more challenging, but the Flames were able to hold on with 16 of 18 free throws bucketed in the second slice for the 67-62 victory at home.
LaShawna Thomas led all scoring for Wright State with 25 points, and Erica Richardson recorded 14 points and five boards.
The UIC women have won four of their last five contests and have outscored their last two opponents by a total of 139-115. They finish up their homestand on Saturday against a tough first place Detroit (12-11, 10-2) team at 3pm CT. Catch the game online at www.HorizonLeagueNetwork.tv.
