The Gwinnett Braves wrapped up their next-to-last home series of the 2013 season by falling to the Norfolk Tides Tuesday night by a run, 4-3. The loss gave the Tides a sweep of the two-game set after their 13-1 drubbing of the G-Braves in Monday’s contest. The loss is the fourth in a row, seventh in the last eight, for Gwinnett.
Sean Gilmartin (ND. 5.34) made his 16th start with Gwinnett this season, third since being activated from the DL, and pitched well despite not factoring in the decision. The lefty went 6.0 innings, allowed two hits, one earned run, walked one and struck out seven while recording just the second Quality Start in his last eight trips to the hill.
Dan Uggla went yard while going 2-for-4 in the 4-3 loss. It was his second, and last, game of a rehab stint with the G-Braves as a result of Lasik surgery. Alden Carrithers and Joe Leonard each drove in solo runs, while Ernesto Mejia doubled for the 33rd time this season.
Cody Martin (2.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 SO, HR) had a Blown Save (1)in only his second relief appearance with Gwinnett while Wirfin Obispo (1.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 SO) took the Loss (L, 2-4, 3.30). Juan Cedeno tossed a perfect inning, and Ryan Buchter added 0.2 innings of one hit, one run (unearned) ball while striking out two.
Gwinnett will close out their 2013 home schedule with a three game series against the Durham Bulls that begins on Wednesday and ends on Friday night. As there is for every Friday night game at Coolray, there will be a fireworks show following the game.
