UGA Softball ranked No. 10 in USA Today/NFCA preseason poll

The University of Georgia softball team was ranked No. 10 in the USA Today/National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division I Top 25 Preseason Poll. Additionally, the Lady Diamond Dogs were ranked No. 12 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Preseason Poll.

Defending national champion Arizona State is ranked on top in the USA Today/NFCA poll, with Florida, Alabama, California and UCLA rounding out the Top Five. Arizona State is also ranked at No. 1 in the ESPN.com/USA poll, followed by Alabama, California, Florida and Missouri.

Georgia finished at No. 9 in both polls last season.

The Lady Diamond Dogs are returning 11 players from 2011, after achieving a 51-14, SEC 17-9 record on the season. They made their 10th-straight NCAA Division I Softball Championship appearance last season, making it to the Super Regionals.

The UGA season opens on Feb. 10, when the team hosts the Fifth Annual Red and Black Showcase. The three-day tournament features six teams:  NC State, Utah State, St. John’s, Army and Campbell.

Georgia v. Army is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. (ET) in Athens.
