UGA Football: Parking becomes an issue for fans traveling to rainy Athens for Georgia v. Auburn

Before the Georgia (5-4, SEC 3-3) v. Auburn (7-3, SEC 3-3) game even gets between the hedges, fans have something else to worry about in Athens: parking.

Because of the heavy rains across Georgia, the grassy areas at the intramural fields, Aderhold Hall, East Campus Drive and the Ramsey Center have become too waterlogged for fan parking. Therefore, UGA police chief Jimmy Williamson has stated that these areas will not be available for fan parking this week.

“The entire fall season has been wetter than usual, and due to Tropical Storm Ida, several ground areas are saturated to the point that that we will not be able to use them for parking,” Chief Williamson explained on www.georgiadogs.com.

Williamson also had some suggestions and requests for fans attending the Georgia-Auburn game this weekend. “We suggest people carpool as much as possible. We also ask those who normally bring pull-behind trailers to consider going without them so that we can have more parking available for other cars. We want people to reconsider some of the items they might normally bring, such as extension cords and even bulky tables,” the chief continued. “All heavy objects are going to create problems on our landscape.”

Georgia v. Auburn is scheduled to kick off on Saturday in Athens at 7:00 p.m. (EST). The game will be carried live on ESPN2.
