UGA senior Lady Hoop Dog Meredith Mitchell was named SEC Player of the Week today. Mitchell averaged 15 points, five assists and four steals when Georgia defeated Ole Miss and LSU last week. The two wins came in Mitchell’s final two games at Stegeman Coliseum, as the regular season came to a close.
Mitchell had her career SEC-high of 20 points v. Ole Miss, and scored 10 points against LSU. She also had a career high of six steals against Ole Miss.
The Lady Bulldogs closed their regular season with a 22-7 overall record, and 11-5 in the SEC; UGA will be the No. 3 seed in the SEC Tournament.
"I'm very happy for and proud of Meredith," head coach Andy Landers said on www.georgiadogs.com. "She's had a very solid season, and I would guess any senior playing their final home games would dream about performing the way Meredith played."
UGA jumped two spots in the Associated Press poll today, landing at No. 16. They will begin SEC Tournament play on Friday, March 2, at 10 p.m. (ET) in Nashville, TN. They will face the winner of sixth-seed South Carolina and 11th-seed Alabama in the first-round game on Thursday night. The South Carolina-Alabama game will be broadcast on FOX SportsSouth.
