Previously I wrote articles about the Roswell UFO Festival which happened earlier this month.. Now comes an exciting event in August, right in Denver, in your own back yard! Take time off from work, take the kids to grandma, put the dog in a kennel, do whatever you need to go to this event August 6 - 9 at the Marriott Hotel DTC. This 40th Anniversary MUFON Symposium could very well be one of the most exciting yet. THIS IS AN EVENT YOU GOTTA SEE!
Recently I had an opportunity to be interviewed on the Lewis and Fox program, 103.5 fm on your radio dial. They seemed to have a fixation on the word "MUFON" . The word does sound funny, but I assure you MUFON and its members take their work seriously!
BRIEF HISTORY
You ask, "What is MUFON?" MUFON, the Mutual UFO Network, started in 1969 and is recognized worldwide as being the largest organization to take the investigation of UFO phenomenon seriously. We are lucky their headquarters is located here in Fort Collins, Colorado. Originally known as the Midwest UFO network Allen Utke, a professor at Wisconsin State University, was at the helm. Later, Walt Andrus followed as MUFON Director with his strong business management and human resources knowledge. Walt was largely responsible for putting MIUFON into the International spotlight and for bringing forth the team of Field Investigators to seriously investigate UFO sightings. John F. Schuessler took over as International Director in 2000 and is largely known for his fine work and further advancement of MUFON by gaining much respect in the international community.. John retired in November 2006 and James Carrion became the current International Director. James has been pivotal in the upgrade of MUFON’s processes and procedures and has, thankfully, been responsible for scanning MUFON's past records to make them available electronically!

The first day, August 6th, is dedicated to Field Investigators (FI), Jan Narzon Assistant State Director Southern California will be talking about the 10 step investigation process in detail. Jude Talaga follows with an explanation of Case Management System (CMS) , a great tool for current Field Investigators to use in logging and recording investigative process onto MUFON's records. Other seminars include the use of FI equipment techniques for witness Interview and the use of Astronomy for Field Investigators. Of particular note is Debbie Ziegelmeyer (State Director of MUFON in Missouri) and Chuck Zukowski, a brother and sister team who have extensive dig experience in the field at the Roswell, NM site. They are very interesting and well known for their research in to a Roswell Rock which has the engraving of a crop circle on it and exhibits strange properties.
There are other techniques which are to be discussed. For example Marc D'Antonio - "Photo and Video Analysis Basics Every Investigator Should Know"; Chuck Modlin - "Field Investigator Equipment—Far Out Gadgets"; Richard Lang - "Witness Interview Techniques" and Marc D’Antonio (again)- "Astronomy 101 for Field Investigators". Amazing that there is so much knowledge encompassing a reported UFO sighting.

August 7th is really when thing get moving for the general public when on site registration begins, a press conference and in the evening Stanton Friedman. I doubt there is a more knowledgeable person on the subject of Ufology than Stanton Friedman. He was definitely one of the most sought after and most knowledgeable speakers at the Roswell UFO Festival! Friedman, a nuclear physicists, likely the most respected person in the Ufology and has been on the UFO lecture circuit since 1967. Stanton has been on the Larry King show, he provided written testimony to Congressional Hearings, appeared twice at the UN and is a pioneer of many aspects, including technology, of Ufology;. Really, when you think about it, how many people in this field have a day set aside to commemorate them? The City of Fredericton, New Brunswick, declared August 27, 2007, Stanton Friedman Day. Stanton will be speaking on the topic, "Pseudoscience of Anit-Ufology"

Let's assume you don't know a single thing about any of the speakers. Just look how interesting the topics are. Dr. Frank Salisbury - Reflections of an Old UFO Chaser! Sounds like an interesting time there! With the news full of UFO's over Pennsylvania, it is only fitting that John Ventre, President of Pennsylvania MUFON, give us an update on what is really happening there! The YouTube report below is on last year's sightings . I can't wait to hear about the happenings in Pennsylvania for 2009!
John Greenewald talks over lunch about Preserving History, followed by Dr. Jeffrey Bennett's lecture on "Beyond UFO's The Scientific Search for Extraterrestrial Life" which brings creditability through science into the search equation. Ted Phillips should be a good lecture on "Dramatic Changes in Trace/Landing Events.
If you still are skeptical or know of someone that is, the Marc D'Antonio (wow, again) lecture Saturday, can't be missed. His topic is "How to talk to a Skeptic About UFO's!" I know a good number of people where this subject will come in handy! Continuing along the introduction of science in to Ufology, Dr. Kevin Randle speaks on "Moving Ufology into the Scientific Arena"

One of this year's most interesting speakers, in my opinion, has got to be Peter Robbins. NO, not the Peter Robbins of voice-over, Charlie Brown fame. This Peter Robbins is much too interesting to be associated with Charlie Brown. In Roswell, NM this year, Peter Robbins was basically everywhere and was the speaker/coordinator for every speaker. I would be surprised if his lecture on "Politics, Religion and Human Nature; Roadblocks on the Path to Disclosure" lasts within it's time frame! This is the kind of energetic speaker where it would be amazing if he gets time to eat dinner before he answers all audience questions. Don't even get him started on current US disclosure of past UFO files!
So what about UFOs and our neighbors to the north, Canada? Chris Rutkowski talks about "20-year Longitudinal study of Canadian UFOs". While after lunch, Bruce Maccabee follows up with a "35-year Perspective on UFO Photo Investigation"
James Carrion, rounds out the speakers addressing the symposium with an exciting topic of "New Research Avenues for Ufology". The symposium ends on a high note with a Speaker Panel discussion.
Of course Vendors will be there as will various films showing at various times and don't forget the MUFON Award for Excellence in Ufology. The Silent Auction of MUFON and other neat stuff is also going to be great, there promises to be a lot of one of a kind items, books, t-shirts, collectible items, posters, hats statutes and more. The auction alone is worth going to!
One thing I do want to point out, one vendor, AERC (the Abduction Experience and Research Committee) under the auspices of MUFON will be having a booth at the Symposium and is looking for volunteers to participate in a Abduction Study! Lester Velez is searching for volunteers who believe have been abducted or had contact with an alien entity. They are also looking for participants that DO NOT believe they have been abducted or had contact for inclusion in a control group.

From my experience, it does not look that this organization takes the investigation of UFOs seriously. Two years ago I discovered that AFOs (Aliens Flying Object) live in our Earth's atmosphere. None of the Ufologists took it seriously including MUFON that assigned this case to the investigator who was lazy enough to drive 50-60 miles to see them in the night sky. Since then I started to show people AFOs existence. Once per week I go to Manhatten (Columbus Circle). Hundreds of people witnessed AFOs under my guidance and MUFFON still did not show any interest in my discovery.
I would agree with the previous post. My experience with MUFON was also not very good. They seem to dismiss multiple sightings. They also want to study the abductions, but what about the contactees? There is a huge underground of contact workers all over this world that are under the radar because the so called Investigators and most Ufologists dismiss the idea. Even science is a mindset. History has shown us time and again how great ideas have been dismissed and overlooked because the mindset at the time could not see it. If indeed we are dealing with intelligent life that may be thousands if not millions of years ahead of us technologically, possibly spiritually; and have learned to manipulate physics at the quantum level we need to realize experiencers that report high strangeness are not some kind of attention seeker. MUFON needs to expand it's areas of study and include the notion of the real paranormal.
After seeing the way a woman was treated on one of the TV shows about ufos I would not contact MUFON if a UFO landed in my backyard and let me take photos! It was uncalled for and rude.
The other investigators where very good and did good work, the mufon guy was just rude and out of line. I know all of them are not that way but it really did make me think about ever making a report to them , or anyone in my family.
Thank God that MUFON does question witnesses thoroughly and with skepticism, otherwise every con artist under the sun will be pushing their hoax UFO event to get their fifteen minutes of fame or try to make a buck.
