The finale of The Ultimate Fighter Season 10 featured two quarterfinals and two semifinals.
Quarterfinal: Marcus Jones vs. Darrill Schoonover
No weigh-in was shown, and there was not much pre-fight hype.
Jones was the lone fighter from Team Rampage to make the quarterfinals, and he scored a takedown of Schoonover 10 seconds into the fight, earning side control on the mat.
Jones twice stepped over Schoonover’s head with his right leg and landed right-handed blows to the face. Schoonover scrambled to his knees, then got Jones into his guard. Jones postured and landed hammer fists, tried for a kimura and spun back into Schoonover’s guard.
Schoonover tried to scramble and nearly got up, but Jones was all over him, pushing back into his opponent’s guard. At the 2:30 mark, Jones postured up and landed a huge right hand to the face that knocked out Schoonover. Jones added a couple more left-handed bombs before Herb Dean waved it off.
Jones’ power was tremendously impressive. As opposing coach Rashad Evans said, Jones "engulfed" Schoonover, whose professional MMA record is 10-0. Schoonover said it was his first loss in 27 MMA fights and boxing matches.
Jones, the former No. 1 draft choice of the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers, advanced to the semifinals, along with Roy Nelson, Brendan Schaub and James McSweeney.
Jones will take on another former NFL player in Schaub, while Nelson will meet McSweeney.
