UFC on Fox 6 is live this Saturday, January 26th and being held at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. The main event will feature a Flyweight Championship match between Demetrious Johnson and John Dodson. The main card will also feature Rampage Jackson’s final fight with the UFC in a bout with heavy handed Glover Teixeira. Facebook will air the first preliminary fight, then FX airs the next 6 prelims and the 4 fight main card can be seen on Fox. Enjoy the predictions and UFC on Fox 6 fight card.
Facebook Prelims: 0-1-0
170lbs – Simeon Thoresen (1-1 UFC) vs. David Mitchell (0-2 UFC) – Thoresen via decision – Both men are fantastic submission grapplers which usually means their skills will cancel out, but Thoresen is a much better striker and that will give him the edge should this fight go the distance. Wrong - Mitchell won via unanimous decision
FX Prelims: 4-2-0
185lbs – Rafael Natal (2-2-1 UFC) vs. Sean Spencer (0-0 UFC) – Natal via submission – Spencer is making his UFC debut as an injury replacement and he’s jumping up in weight. Natal should run through Spencer on the ground and secure a submission. Correct plus method
170lbs – Mike Stumpf (0-1 UFC) vs. Pascal Krauss (1-1 UFC) – Stumpf via decision – Both men are good on the ground, but Stumpf is a better wrestler and should spend more time in top control. Stumpf also has better striking then Krauss so expect a decision victory for Stumpf. Wrong - Krauss won via unanimous decision
265lbs – Mike Russow (4-1 UFC) vs. Shawn Jordan (1-1 UFC) – Russow via submission – Jordan is a great striker, but Russow is tough as nails and can take a punch while he’ll be looking for a takedown. On the ground Russow is years ahead of Jordan and will be able to sink in a submission of some sort. Wrong - Jordan won via TKO
205lbs – Ryan Bader (7-3 UFC) vs. Vladimir Matyushenko (7-4 UFC) – Bader via decision – Matyushenko is a tough veteran fighter, but his age is likely catching up to him and a fight against a younger version of himself may not be the best matchup. Bader should win this fight with striking and takedown defense. Correct
145lbs – Clay Guida (9-7 UFC) vs. Hatsu Hioki (2-1 UFC) – Guida via decision – Hioki is making the trip from overseas, so that plus a fight against a grinder like Guida will really test Hioki’s cardio. Guida will use his relentless wrestling style to win another decision victory in this fight. Correct plus method
155lbs – TJ Grant (6-3 UFC) vs. Matt Wiman (9-4 UFC) – Grant via decision – Wiman is a very gritty fighter with skills in every area but mostly wrestling. Grant has great striking, submissions and takedowns so this should be a back and forth battle, but Grant just seems like the better fighter here. Correct
Fox Main Card: 3-1-0 Total MMA Predictions: 74-45-0 = 62%
145lbs – Erik Koch (2-0 UFC) vs. Ricardo Lamas (3-0 UFC) – Lamas via decision – Koch is a talented young striker, but Lamas is a great wrestler and he’s used to bigger opponents as he fought before at 155lbs. Koch has a chance to get the TKO, but Lamas should grind out a decision victory here. Correct
155lbs – Donald Cerrone (6-1 UFC) vs. Anthony Pettis (2-1 UFC) – Cerrone via decision – Both men are almost identical in every aspect of fighting, but Cerrone seems to have improved his wrestling more so than Pettis and that should be the difference in this fight. Wrong - Pettis won via TKO
205lbs – Quinton Jackson (7-4 UFC) vs. Glover Teixeira (2-0 UFC) – Teixeira via TKO – Just like the last fight both men have similar styles and should come out willing to trade punches with each other. If Teixeira decides to take this to the ground he should win easily, but he’ll likely look for the KO finish. Correct
125lbs – Demetrious Johnson (4-1-1 UFC) vs. John Dodson (3-0 UFC) – Johnson via decision – This is the night of similar styled match-ups as these two fighters also have the same style. Both are very fast with amazing defense, but Johnson has fought the tougher competition and that experience should pay off. Correct plus method
UFC 156: Aldo vs. Edgar is next Saturday, February 2nd and not only does it feature a Featherweight title fight, but Allistar Overeem and Rashad Evans can also be seen on the main card. The UFC had a great start to 2013 with UFC on FX 7: Belfort vs. Bisping with a card that turned out to be better than anticipated.
