UFC on FOX 3 set for May 5th in Newark; Miller vs. Diaz announced

Las Vegas--With the UFC on FOX scheduled for its second show this Saturday in Chicago, news coming in from UFC President Dana White is that the third UFC on FOX is already scheduled.

White announced the main event just minutes ago via his twitter, and it’s very, very good news for fight fans.

“Our 3rd FOX fight May 5th at the IZOD Center in New Jersey will feature Nate Diaz vs. Jim Miller!!! Nate = 3 sub and 5 FON Jim = 3 SON!!,”  White exclaimed.

As mentioned previously, this is exciting news for fight fans.  Miller, the Jersey native is just coming off a first-round submission victory over the highly-touted Melvin Guillard on the UFC’s debut show on FX this past Friday.

Likewise, Diaz is coming off a year-end destruction of the surging Donald Cerrone at UFC 141 on December 30th.

The timing of this fight couldn’t be better, as both fighters are coming off stellar performances and are riding high to start the new year.  As White pointed out in the message Diaz and Miller have a combined 11 ‘fight night’ bonuses under their belt.  Diaz is the owner of three ‘submission of the night’ and five ‘fight of the night’ performances, respectively.  And Miller, the scrappy grinder that he is, possesses three submission of the night victories himself.

Fans couldn’t ask for a better style matchup.  Although Miller is predominantly known for his wrestling prowess, and that may be accurate, he is a guy who pushes the pace at all times.  Coincidentally, Diaz is the stand-up version of Miller.  He constantly pushes the pace on the feet and never gives his opponent time to gain space or grab a breath.

With their respective relentless pace and aggressive style, both fighters have talent ridden resumes.  Diaz holds wins over Cerrone, Takanori Gomi, Josh Neer, Kurt Pellegrino, and Grey Maynard on the Ultimate Fighter.  Miller sports a 21-3 record with wins over the aforementioned Guillard, Charles Oliveira, Mac Danzig, and Duane Ludwig

With such shining resumes, fan-friendly fighting styles, and current winning streaks, it would be no shocker if this fight was a contender match to see who meets the winner of Frankie Edgar and Ben Henderson for the Lightweight title later in February.

Get ready New Jersey.

(UPDATE: According to Ariel Helwani of MMAfighting.com, Diaz vs. Miller WILL NOT be the main-event.  That was assumed on my part. All that means is this should be one heck of a card.)
