UFC on FOX 12: Matt Brown vs. Robbie Lawler results

According to a July 26 report from Bloody Elbow, the results are in from the UFC on FOX 12 prelims. UFC on FOX 12, which went down July 26 at the SAP Center in San Jose, Calif., featured a loaded preliminary card that aired exclusively on UFC Fight Pass. Kicking off the UFC on FOX 12 prelims, Noad Lahat battled Steven Siler at featherweight, in a bout that featured two athletes who may have been fighting for their jobs.

Siler, 27, headed into UFC on FOX 12 as the more recognizable name, but he might have been competing to stay on the UFC roster with his bout against Lahat. After losing two in a row, including a knockout loss to Rony Jason, Siler knew a loss could have earned him a pink slip. Unfortunately for Siler, he wasn't able to inflict much punishment in the first two rounds of action. Lahat came out swinging, and he came close to finishing the bout with a choke in the second stanza.

Siler came roaring back in the third frame, putting Lahat on his back and reigning down punches from top position. It was too little, too late for Siler, as he lost via judges' decision. He may have done enough in the third round to save his job, so that's a positive he can take away from the fight. Despite losing three in a row, Siler turned in a decent effort. Lahat won via unanimous decision, but Siler will likely stay on the UFC roster.

Later on the UFC Fight Pass portion of the UFC on FOX 12 card, Juliana Lima fights Joanna Jędrzejczyk at a 116.5-pound catchweight, in what will be just the second female strawweight bout in UFC history. Elsewhere in the UFC on FOX 12 prelims, Andreas Ståhl fights Gilbert Burns at welterweight and Akbarh Arreola battles Tiago dos Santos at lightweight. The UFC on FOX 12 prelims then switches to FOX, with a featherweight bout between Michael De La Torre and Brian Ortega.

Also on tap for UFC on FOX 12, Hernani Perpétuo fights Tim Means at welterweight. Additionally, Kyle Kingsbury matches up with Patrick Cummins at light heavyweight. Daron Cruickshank takes on Jorge Masvidal at lightweight, in the UFC on FOX 12 preliminary card headliner. UFC on FOX 12 then moves to the main card, with Josh Thomson fighting Bobby Green at lightweight.

In other action, Clay Guida takes on Dennis Bermudez at featherweight, in what will serve as the swing fight of the UFC on FOX 12 main card. In light heavyweight action, Anthony Johnson looks to build on his recent win over Phil Davis with a victory over Brazilian MMA legend Antônio Rogério Nogueira. Johnson and Nogueira are both currently ranked in the top 10 in the world at light heavyweight, and a victory could position them for a future title shot against either Daniel Cormier or Jon Jones.

The UFC on FOX 12 headliner is a No. 1 contender bout between former title contender Robbie Lawler and the always entertaining Matt Brown. Whoever wins will earn a title fight against UFC welterweight champ Johny Hendricks. Lawler (23-10 MMA, 8-4 UFC) and Brown always turn in solid performances, so this fight could shape up to be one of the best of the year. How will it go down? Both Lawler and Brown have one-punch knockout power, so anything can happen in there.

The UFC on FOX 12 main card airs at 8 p.m. on FOX, following prelims that will be televised on the same channel. Fight fans who want to see who will be next to challenge for the UFC's welterweight title will want to tune in for Lawler vs. Brown. It could be the greatest bout of the year. Brown, 33, is riding a seven-fight win streak, while the 32-year-old Lawler win four of his last five.
