Tomorrow night live from Barueri, Sao Paulo, Brazil's Jose Correa Arena, the UFC will present UFC Fight Night 29: Maia vs Shields. Before the event the fighters have to make weight and they gathered together for the official weigh-ins at the Jose Correa Arena earlier today.
The main event brings two of the UFC's best grapplers together for a welterweight fight. Demian Maia is the number four ranked welterweight in the UFC and a former challenger for the UFC middleweight championship. Jake Shields is a former Strikeforce champion and a former welterweight title challenger. Maia made weight at 171 while Shields also came in at 171.
All fighters made weight with the exception of Thiago Silva. Silva is set to face Matt Hamill, but due to his failure to make weight, he will now have to forfeit twenty-five percent of his pay to Hamill. Silva missed his initial attempt and was only able to get down to 208 pounds.
