Fairfax, Va. -- The Hurricane finally has hit the UFC.

Gerald Harris never made it into the Octagon after his stint on The Ultimate Fighter, but he arrived Monday with a TKO victory over John Salter at the Patriot Center in UFC Fight Night 20.

Harris (14-2) finished off the bloodied Salter at 3:24 of Round Three with a series of ground strikes.  He received a $30,000 for knockout of the night by default, as his was the only candidate.

There was little action in the opening round, save for Harris keeping Salter (4-1) from earning a takedown. Salter, who took the fight on short notice as Paterson's Mike Massenzio was forced to withdraw, earned a bloody nose for his early troubles.

The southpaw Salter tried loading up his left hand in Round Two, but the athletic Harris made him look slow and did not get hit.  With less than three minutes left, Salter shot for a single-leg takedown that Harris stuffed, with Harris moving into a controlling position against his opponent as the action went to the fence.

Salter's nose began profusely bleeding as Harris landed an uppercut before it went to the feet.  Salter's nose might have been broken, as he appeared thereafter to be breathing from his mouth.  The lower part of his face and his upper torso became splattered in crimson.

Harris landed a heavy combination in the third round and got on top of Salter, posturing up from the guard to try for an effective and accurate ground and pound.  Salter attempted an inverted triangle -- the newest en vogue move in MMA -- but Harris' head slipped out.

After a stand-up, Harris got down Salter into side control, his ground strikes finally began to get through and he earned the stoppage from referee Todd McGovern.
