A number of fight announcements have been released by the Ultimate Fighting Championship to fill the coffers of events coming up in the coming months. Here are the matchups that fight fans have to look forward to as a part of UFC events down the line:
Lorenz Larkin will face Francis Carmont at UFC on For 7 on April 20th. Larkin will be making his UFC debut after staying unbeaten while a part of Strikeforce. His one defeat by Muhammed Lawal was changed to a no contest when “King Mo” failed the pre-fight drug testing. His most recent win was against Robbie Lawler this past July.
Carmont is coming off of a controversial win against Tom Lawler at UFC 154. That victory pushed his campaign in the Octagon to 4-0 since debuting at UFC 137.
Ovince St.Preux and Gian Villante will move from the Strikeforce Hexagon to face off against each other in the Octagon at UFC 159.
Villante is riding a three fight win streak into this event that dates back to Strikeforce Challengers 18. St. Preux is 1-1 in his last two bouts as he was defeated by Gegard Mousasi but rebounded to defeat T.J. Cook.
UFC on Fuel TV 9 is set for April 6th and has received a number of additional fights to the card.
Lightweight veteran Ross Pearson will fight the UFC debuting Ryan Couture.
Pearson is coming off of his knockout victory over former 155 contender George Sotiropoulos this past December. Pearson bounced back and forth between featherweight and lightweight but after that recent victory decided to stay put within the 155 pound group.
Couture is also coming over from Strikeforce where he won six of seven fights. The son of UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture, Ryan is coming off of a close victory over K.J. Noons last month.
Recent losers, Philip De Fries and Matt Mitrione will face off at heavyweight.
De Fries was defeated by technical knockout when Todd Duffee stopped him at UFC 155. Mitrione was also stopped in the first round when he faced off against Roy Nelson during the finale of the 16th season of the Ultimate Fighter.
Ryan LaFlare and Ben Alloway are two relative newcomers that will also fight during this event. Ryan will be making his debut for the organization while Ben scored a knockout victory against Manuel Rodriguez during his last contest.
Chris Spang and Adlan Amagov will also face off at UFC on Fuel TV 9. Both of these fighters are also coming off of victories and will make their UFC debut at this event.
As the Strikeforce roster is folded into the UFC’s roster, these fights will help shape up the players that will have the opportunity to remain on the big stage of mixed martial arts.
