According to an April 25 report from MMA Junkie, the 20 fighters competing at UFC 172 this weekend will be stepping on the scale at Maryland's Baltimore Arena for the official UFC 172 pre-fight weigh-ins. Among those weighing in are UFC light heavyweight title holder Jon "Bones" Jones and hard-hitting striker Glover Teixeira, the main event headliners for the UFC 172 card.
Jon Jones and Teixeira will be duking it out for the UFC's light heavyweight championship belt. Whoever wins will likely fight Alexander Gustafsson later this year. At present time, Teixeira is a 5-to-1 underdog for his UFC 172 fight against Jones. UFC boss Dana White thinks Teixeira deserves a better chance than his 5-to-1 underdog status, and that fans have been sleeping on him to pull off the win.
Also on the UFC 172 card is an interesting clash between Phil Davis and Anthony Johnson. Davis won't fly past Gustafsson in the light heavyweight title picture, but he could jump into a possible No. 1 contender fight should he beat Johnson. Davis has been a legitimate top five light heavyweight for over a year now, but he'll need to beat Johnson to stay in the mix.
Davis could possibly fight the loser of the Jones vs Teixeira tilt should he defeat Johnson at UFC 172. Realistically, Davis is two wins away from a UFC light heavyweight title shot. The UFC 172 main card also features an intriguing middleweight clash between Tim Boetsch and Luke Rockhold, plus a lightweight bout between Yancy Medeiros and Jim Miller.
Chris Beal and Patrick Williams kick off the UFC 172 card, with a preliminary fight that will air exclusively on UFC Fight Pass. Beal and Williams were the first men to step on the scale for the UFC 172 weigh-ins, but they were followed shortly after by Danny Castillo and Charlie Brenneman. Joe Ellenberger was supposed to be on the UFC 172 card, but he dropped off due to injury.
The FOX Sports 1 portion of the UFC 172 card features a women's bantamweight bout between Jessamyn Duke and Bethe Correia, plus a lightweight clash pitting Takanori Gomi against Isaac Vallie-Flagg. Joseph Benavidez's flyweight fight with Tim Elliott headlines the UFC 172 prelims. UFC 172 goes down April 26 at the Baltimore Arena in Baltimore.
