The Ultimate Fighting Chamipionship (UFC) is coming to Dallas in March with a main event featuring light heavyweight champion Jon "Bones" Jones. UFC 171 takes place live on pay per view from Dallas with the main event of Jones taking on top ranked challenger, Glover Teixeira. It will mark Jones’ first time back in the cage since his five round war with Alexander Gustafsson.
The rest of the UFC 171 card is taking shape as more fights have been announced and confirmed for the pay per view. Thiago Silva will take on Ovince St. Preux in an exciting matchup. This bout was originally scheduled for UFC Fight Night 35 in January, but Silva was taken out of that fight. The two will now square off at the March 15 event. Silva has won his last two fights defeating Matt Hamill by a decision and knocking out Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante. St. Preux has also won his last two fights. He most recently fought in August, scoring a victory by knockout over Cody Donovan.
Another fight announced features two fighters whom most may recognize from the Ultimate Fighter 17. Bubba McDaniel and tor Troeng will square off against each other. Both fighters are coming off of defeats in their last fight. McDaniel lost to Brad Tavares in August, while Troeng fell to Rafael Natal during the September UFC event.
Also announced for this card is Hector Lombard versus Jake Shields in a welterweight fight featuring former champions. Lombard, a former Bellator Middleweight champion, scored an impressive first round knockout of Nate Marquardt in his last bout. Shields, a former Strikeforce Middleweight champion, is on a two fight win streak. Shields scored an upset over Demian Maia during UFC Fight Night 29 in October.
