UFC 161 in Winnipeg official, Shogun to face Lil Nog

UFC 161 in Winnipeg, Manitoba is official, and a rematch between Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and former light heavyweight champion Maurício “Shogun” Rua has been verbally agreed to. The event will take place at the MTS Centre on June 15, UFC President Dana White confirmed with USA Today Sports on Monday.

Rua beat “Lil Nog” in 2005 in the quarter finals of the Pride middleweight grand prix via unanimous decision. The bout received the 2005 Fight of the Year.

Rua, who has been up and down since entering the UFC, last fought in December at UFC on FOX 5 against Alexander Gustafsson. He lost via unanimous decision.

Nogueira, on the other hand, won his last two bouts. He beat former light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz at UFC 140 via TKO and beat former light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans at UFC 156 via unanimous decision.

As well, Evans is expected to face former Pride and Strikeforce champion Dan Henderson, pending Henderson’s medical clearance, White told USA Today Sports.

Tickets for UFC 161 go on sale on Friday, April 12 to the general public, the Canadian Press reports the UFC Canada (@UFC_CA) Twitter account announcing.
