The UFC is going big for its first visit to Winnipeg, Manitoba as the organization announced on Wednesday that interim bantamweight champion Renan Barao will face Eddie Wineland in the event’s main fight.
Barao, who has not lost since his MMA debut back in 2005, is coming off of a submission victory over Michael McDonald. He won the interim title when he defeated former featherweight champion Urijah Faber at UFC 149 in Calgary.
Barao currently holds a record of 30-1-1.
Wineland, who had a slow start when first entering the UFC, is coming off of a two fight win streak. His last two fights were against Scott Jorgensen (Fight of the Night) and Brad Pickett.
Wineland has a record of 20-8-1.
Also added to the card, former Strikeforce middleweight champion Jake Shields will face Tyron Woodley, and fan favourite Pat “HD” Barry will take on Shawn “The Savage” Jordan, The Canadian Press reported.
UFC 161 will take place at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg on June 15.
