UFC 158, is scheduled for this Staurday March 16th as welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre faces off rival Nick Diaz from the Bell Centre in Montreal Quebec Canada.
St. Pierre who was originally supposed to face Diaz at UFC 137, prior to Diaz getting pulled from the match, has been looking to fight Diaz for a few years now. Diaz who was formerly the Strickeforce welterwieght standout and champion made his return to the UFC in October 2011. Diaz who has always been considered one of the top pound for pound fighters in the welterwight class, has been waiting for his opportunity to fight the man that many people consider to be number one in the world Georges St. Pierre.
With St. Pierre being out for over a year with a knee injury and Diaz being out over a year for failing a drug test, a match that seemed destined to happen nearly a year and a half ago will finally go down this Saturday night.
Diaz who is coming off a loss earned this fight by constantly calling out St. Pierre, getting under GSP's skin. If it weren't for St. Pierre requesting to fight Diaz, it is my belief the St. Pierre would be fighting Johnny Hendrick's this Saturday instead of Diaz.
In the co main event we have Johnny Hendricks facing Carlos Condit. Condit who was originally supposed to be facing Rory McDonald prior to Rory's injury, now finds himself in a number one contender match with Johnny Hendricks. Hendricks has made a name for himself knocking out guys like Jon Fitch and Marten Kampmenn. Hendricks is known for his outstanding wrestling, but in recent outings has shown that he has the most significant power in the UFC's welterweight division.
Condit who is coming off a unification title fight loss to Georges St. Pierre, knows that with a win this Saturday night he can be getting a rematch with Pierre in the near future.
