UFC 157 was last Saturday night and Ronda Rousey was impressive in her UFC debut as she defeated Liz Carmouche by armbar in the first round.
The pay-per-view show and the prelims were entertaining even though most fans booed the co-main event between Dan Henderson and Lyoto Machida.
Dana White, the UFC President, said that the fans would have been more upset if Henderson/Machida was the main event. That may be true but if it was the main event instead of Rousey/Carmouche, the fight would have been five rounds instead of three, and perhaps there would have been a finish in the fourth or fifth round.
Machida won by decision over Henderson but he did not win over the crowd at the Honda Center in Anaheim. The fight was very boring and a snoozefest.
Urijah Faber won by rear naked choke over Ivan Menjivar in the first round and Robbie Lawler upset Josh Koscheck by knockout.
There were rumors that Faber could be cut from the UFC roster if he lost so it was a good thing he won. Koscheck could be cut after the loss.
In the other fight on the pay-per-view card, Court McGee won by decision over Josh Neer. I don't think many fans cared about this fight at all. It was just a filler fight.
The fight of the night belonged in the prelim card and was between Dennis Bermudez and Matt Grice. Bermudez won by decision over Grice in a three-round slugfest.
The third round was amazing as Bermudez threw everything but the kitchen sink at Grice and Grice was still able to fight back without getting knocked out. Here is a gif of the third round.
Overall, the show was entertaining and most fans were happy and satisfied to see Rousey make her UFC debut in the octagon.
The next UFC show is this Saturday from Japan. The main event is between Wanderlei Silva and Brian Stann.
The show is free on FUEL TV which is still not available in San Francisco but should be soon.
