When Ronda Rousey and Liz Carmouche met inside the Octagon on Saturday night at UFC 157, the capacity crowd inside the Honda Center in Anahaeim, Calif. were treated to another historic night in MMA history, as for the first time two women met inside a UFC cage.
There was UFC 1 and the subsequent tournaments won by UFC hall of fame'r Royce Gracie. There was UFC 33 and the first sanctioned UFC event in Las Vegas, all the way back in Sept. 2001. There was the benchmark UFC 100 in July, 2009 -- a milestone that many thought non-achievable during the 'dark ages' of MMA. Finally, on Saturday night, we had the first female fight between Carmouche and Rousey for the UFC women's bantamweight championship to add to that list.
Examiner.com was live and seated cageside for Saturday's historic card and we brought you a live play-by-play. If you missed it, you can get caught up here.
