UFC 156 review

On Saturday, February 2nd, the UFC returned to Las Vegas for UFC 156 which was highlighted by the super fight between current featherweight champion Jose Aldo and former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar. The card featured a strong line up of potential title contender eliminator fights in the heavyweight, light heavyweight, and flyweight divisions. There were a total of 11 fights: two that streamed on Facebook, 4 prelims on FX, and the 5 fight main card on PPV. There were a total of 4 finishes: 2 KO/TKO's and 2 submissions. Here are the results:

Francisco Rivera overcame being rocked in the 1st round to drop Edwin Figueroa in the 2nd and won by TKO.

Dustin Kimura showed off some great BJJ and submits Chico Camus by rear naked choke in the 3rd round.

Isaac Vallie-Flagg upset Yves Edwards in his UFC debut by split decision.

Bobby Green came out strong in the 3rd round, upsetting Jacob Volkman by submission via a rear naked choke.

Tyron Woodley came out swinging and KO'd Jay Hieron early in the 1st winning his UFC debut.

Evan Dunham and Gleison Tibau went to war for 3 rounds with Dunham winning by split decision.

Joseph Benavidez edged Ian McCall in a close flyweight eliminator bout by unanimous decision.

Demain Maia displayed a much improved wrestling game and used his superior grappling to dominate Jon Fitch, winning by unanimous decision.

Antonio "Big Foot" Silva shocked the world with an awesome display of hands and beating Alistair Overeem early in the 3rd round by TKO.

Lil Nog used his elite boxing to edge and upset Rashad Evans in an uneventful 3rd fight, winning by unanimous decision.

Jose Aldo came on strong in the 1st two rounds, edged Edgar in the 3rd, and Frankie Edgar managed to win the last two rounds. Jose retained his belt, winning by unanimous decision.
