This one was created with a knockout in mind. Kongo and Hunt are both heavy hitters who like to bang. But while Hunt is largely one dimensional in that he’s primarily a striker, Kongo is capable of taking the fight to the mat, where he has devastating ground and pound.
Kongo is looking to get himself back in the mix at heavyweight. He feels he has the stuff to be a title contender, but he’s stumbled along the way. A strong showing here, while it will not even come close to earning him a contender’s status, it will put him on the path.
Hunt was a popular fighter in the Pride days, and fighting in Japan again will bring out the best in him. He’s as tough as they get, and in a straight kickboxing match he’s a rough night out for anyone, but he’s severely limited at the upper level of MMA. He just does not have the tools to advance past his current rank.
Hunt probably has better one shot knockout capabilities, so look for Kongo to change levels and take Hunt down if he eats a couple of shots he finds distasteful. From there he will unleash a tirade of hostility.
Cheick Kongo by TKO.
