UFC 118 fight bonuses: Joe Lauzon, Nate Diaz, Marcus Davis impress; but no KO bonus

UFC President Dana White announced the three winners for the official UFC 118 fight bonuses in the amount of $60,000 each at the post-fight press conference (watch the video below!) at the TD Garden in Boston, Mass. Aug. 29.

Fight of the Night

Nate Diaz and Marcus "The Irish Hand Grenade" Davis both earned the Fight of the Night bonus for their passionate slug fest which resulted in Davis suffering a nasty cut above his right eye. The enormous blood flow and subsequent swelling ironically made it look like someone had stuffed a hand grenade in Davis' eye socket. Nevertheless, he went toe to toe with Diaz for three grueling rounds until Diaz finally caught him in a guillotine choke at 4:02 in round three.

Submission of the Night

Joe Lauzon earned the Submission of the Night bonus with his swift submission of Gabe Ruediger via armbar at 2:01 in round one. Ruediger apparently did not stand a chance against Lauzon's superior jiu jitsu skills. The impressive win might have also helped Lauzon a bump up to the main card in his next UFC fight.

KO of the Night

Since there was no knockout on the UFC 118 card in spite of boxer James Toney's promises to KO UFC legend Randy Couture in 30 seconds or less, White had to save this bonus for another time.

boring show overall. Toney never even swung ONCE or attempted any defense to Randy's very first takedown whatsoever. No knockouts, nobody even got punched hard enough to fall down (that I can remember). I was at the Garden and the fight of the night should have gone to the two spectators on the floor that got into a fist fight and were dragged out by security.

The Diaz/Davis fight was good, but the rest were either boring or way too quick. Toney Phoney was a joke.

I wish I had just saved $350 and watched it LIVE. At least then you get Rogan's commentary.

    EXPO was fun though.

Boston's first show FAILS the grade.
