UFC 115 will take place Saturday night in Vancouver, Canada. The main event will be "The Iceman" Chuck Liddell vs. Rich "Ace" Franklin. Liddell, one of the coaches for season 11 of The Ultimate Fighter, had been scheduled to fight opposing coach Tito Ortiz. The bout would have been the third clash between Liddell and Franklin, with. However, Ortiz withdrew from the fight because of his neck surgery in March according to Sherdog.com.
The main card for UFC 115 also features:
- Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovi? vs. Pat Barry
- Paulo Thiago vs. Martin Kampmann
- Ben Rothwell vs. Gilbert Yvel
- Carlos Condit vs. Rory MacDonald
Predictions for the main card:
Franklin beats Liddell by decision. Liddell's kickboxing used to strike fear throughout the UFC, but he has lost four of his last five fights. Franklin is a much more well-rounded fighter than Liddell's original opponent, Tito Ortiz. Liddell still believes he has something to prove, but his UFC career is nearing the end.
Cro Cop knocks out Pat Barry. Cro Cop struggled mightily against UFC heavyweight contenders Junior dos Santos, Cheick Kongo, and Gabriel Gonzaga. All three of those men are significantly larger than Cro Cop though. Pat Barry, like Cro Cop, is at the lighter end of the heavyweight range. Barry and Cro Cop are fairly similar stylistically, both are primarily kickboxers. Cro Cop needs this win to show that he is still a viable heavyweight competitor for the UFC.
Gilbert Yvel knocks out Ben Rothwell. Rothwell was the IFL heavyweight champion before that promotion ceased operations. Yvel, a veteran of Pride, has faced tougher opponents over the course of his career than Rothwell has.
Paulo Thiago will defeat Martin Kampmann by submission. Thiago's only loss thus far was via decision to Jon Fitch at UFC 100. He has great Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu skills and eight of his thirteen wins have come by submission. Kampmann is 7-2 in his UFC fights and 16-3 overall. He has some submission skills of his own, but Thiago should come out on top in this grappling/ submission battle.
Rory MacDonald will defeat Carlos Condit by decision. MacDonald is only twenty years old and he already has a perfect 10-0 mma record. He won his UFC debut in January at UFC Fight Night 20. Both fighters utilize boxing and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Mike Pyle will take on Jesse Lennox in an undercard fight for UFC 115. Pyle was born in Dresden, Tennessee and moved to Birmingham, Alabama at the age of seventeen in order to study martial arts. Pyle studied Taekwondo, Judo, and Jiu Jitsu while in Birmingham. He now trains with the Xtreme Couture camp in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Pyle's first ever pro mma fight was a decision loss against none other than Quinton "Rampage" Jackson in 1999. Jackson outweighed Pyle by thirty pounds for their fight. A few of his notable wins include victories over Jon Fitch in 2002 and Shonie Carter in 2006. Pyle is 1-2 currently in UFC with losses to Brock Larson and Jeke Ellenberger and a win over Chris Wilson. His overall pro mma record is currently 19-7-1.
