The UFC announced yesterday that they will show UFC 111: St. Pierre vs. Hardy in select theaters across the country.
UFC 111 will hit the silver screen in over 300 theaters in some of the biggest markets in the United States.
Los Angeles will be included in the UFC’s theatrical premiere with the AMC Century City 15 and The Bridge being participating venues.
One of the largest theaters in the region is the AMC in Burbank. They have jumped on the band wagon and have agreed to show the event on their giant screens for UFC fans to come and see an already enormous Shane Carwin fight a recently buffed up Frank Mir.
Orange County will also have a few locations showing the event including the AMC 30 at The Block in Orange and the Huntington Beach 20 in Huntington Beach.
This will be MMA’s attempt to follow boxing’s example of theatrical fights, like the Mayweather-Mosley bout from late last year.
Another option of watching fights might be a good thing for fight fans due to over crowded sports bars and hefty pay-per-view prices.
The price tag for a movie ticket, however, will be a bit higher than what the general public pays for a standard movie at $25 a pop. Local reaction hasn’t been the greatest and people aren’t afraid to voice their opinions.
“Food, drinks, friends & all the yelling is what makes it an even better fight and you can't do that at a theatre,” said Burbank resident Katherine Torres Rice.
“I think everyone would rather pay a little more to watch it at home & know they can enjoy it to the fullest.”
As opposed to the idea some people might be, the UFC on the big screen is an experience like none other and there is a strong likelihood that theaters might still get packed as a result of this new venture by the Las Vegas based promotion.
UFC 111 takes place on Mar. 27, 2010 with a scheduled start time of 10pm ET, 7pm PT.

Way to expensive for me (at $25) to leave my local "watering hole". I think you would have to be in the $10-$15 range to be worth it.
