Here is how it happened:
Rosholt achieved a half-slam of Grove 38 seconds into the opening round. Rosholt took the neck from behind while Grove defended by grabbing an arm. They stood up again and Rosholt scored another takedown but did not establish position. Rosholt pressed against the cage. Grove got Rosholt’s back to the fence, landed two knees to the body and took down Rosholt, who maintained guard position.
Rosholt used the cage to get up, then landed a couple of strikes that made Grove get on his horse. Rosholt took down Grove again and worked through the half-guard and into mount. Grove gave Rosholt arm-triangle position to get back into half-guard and worked the bait-and-switch, taking Rosholt’s right arm, throwing up the legs around Rosholt’s neck for a lightning-quick leg triangle that drew an immediate tap as soon as Grove pulled down on the back of the wrestler’s head.
Grove via submission, triangle choke, 3:59 Rd. 1
An emotional Grove dedicated the fight to his grandmother, who succumbed to cancer last week.
