We just took JoJo, our Italian exchange student with celiac disease, to The Melting Pot for the first time and she has proclaimed it her favorite restaurant. She has been with us for three wonderful months and this was her first experience with fondue, so she can't wait to go back. My family has been a fan of the restaurant since they introduced a comprehensive gluten-free menu back in 2010 and now they have added Udi's Gluten Free's rolls, vanilla cupcakes, and brownies to their offerings.
The Melting Pot worked with the Gluten Intolerance Group to create their gluten-free menu that includes cheese, entree, and dessert choices. Udi's Whole Grain Seeded Dinner Rolls accompany the cheese fondue along with the apple, cauliflower, and zucchini (new) dippers. Udi's Dark Chocolate Brownie Bites and the Vanilla Muffins are part of the chocolate fondue experience in addition to the strawberries, marshmallows, bananas, and pineapple.
These products are a welcome addition to the gluten-free dining experience at The Melting Pot. I thought the rolls tasted great, but they needed to be heated slightly more as they were a little stiff and dry. Usually, if I want to dip bread into the cheese, I have to bring my own, so it was really jazzed to have gluten-free bread brought out. The brownies were perfectly moist and chewy, but the vanilla cupcake was dry and stiff. I slathered both of these lovely gluten-free desserts with a spoonful or two of chocolate and gobbled them down.
Normally, you are seated at a table with two burners when you have a gluten-free diner in your party. This seating allows one pot to remain gluten free for the entire meal and makes it easier to separate out orders. I love that The Melting Pot continues to make strides with their gluten-free offerings, but I wish they would let the community know when there are new gluten-free yummies to sample, so we can spread the word.
Have you tried the new gluten-free options at The Melting Pot? What did you think?
