UConn's Maya Moore, Tina Charles, team nominated for several 2010 ESPYS categories

After breaking records and belief barriers with her team mates last season (2009-2010) UConn's women's basketball star player, Maya Moore, continues to rack up awards and is currently nominated in two categories for the annual ESPYS while her team mate, Tina Charles, as well as the entire team are also nominated in respective categories.

In light of Moore's incredible personal achievements as highest scoring player on her team with a team-high 18.9 PPG and 8.3 RPG during the regular season, as well as averaging 28.5 PPG and 11.5 RPG in the Final Four (named Most Outstanding Player at 2010 Final Four!) she has been nominated for 2010 ESPYS Best College Female Athlete.

Moreover, she has also been nominated as 2010 ESPYS Best Female Athlete for leading her team to back-to-back national championships thanks to her consistently impressive performances.

Naturally, Moore could not have performed at this level without the support of her team mates, in particular Tina Charles who became the school's all-time leading scorer and rebounder last season with an average of 18.2 PPG, 9.5 RPG, 61.8 field goal pct. in under 28 minutes per game.
Needless to say, Charles has also been nominated for 2010 ESPYS Best College Female Athlete.

With two power players like Moore and Charles it is hardly surprising that the UConn Huskies went completely undefeated during the last two seasons (39-0 x 2) which resulted in the longest winning streak in women's college basketball with a total of 78 consecutive games and two National Championships won (#6 and #7 for the team). As a result the team has been nominated for 2010 ESPYS Best Record-Breaking Performance, and deservingly so.

Moore also won the Broderick Cup along with Penn State's Megan Hodge during a ceremony at UCLA on Monday for being the nation’s top female college athletes. It was only the second time that two female athletes instead of just one received this annual award.

The 2010 ESPYS will be televised live on July 14 at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN/ESPNHD from the Nokia Theatre at L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles.

Voting for the 2010 ESPYS takes place between June 24th through July 10th. Vote now!
