UConn Health Center holds Jackson Lab groundbreaking ceremony

A groundbreaking ceremony for the Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine took place this month at the University of Connecticut Health Center. The event comes nearly a year after the state of Connecticut signed an agreement with the Maine-based laboratory to construct the $1.1 billion research facility at UConn's Farmington campus. According to reports, the state is providing $192 million in loans that will be forgiven once Jackson Lab creates and retains 300 jobs by the 10th year of operation. Jackson is also receiving up to $99 million in research grants during the next 10 years.
