Junior forward Kacy Swain has a torn anterior cruciate ligament and is out for the year, UCLA announced on Oct. 4.

Swain averaged 3.1 points and 3.0 rebounds per game last year and was second on the team in blocked shots (21). She shot 81.6 percent from the charity stripe (31-for-38), which also ranked second on the team.

UCLA Coach Cori Close said, "I am very pleased with the steps of growth that I saw in Kacy during the off-season. This makes her injury more disappointing and she won't be able to build on those steps this season."

Swain figured to get a lot more playing time in 2013-14, as the Bruins lost three starters that all could play the forward position to graduation. Her absence now leaves UCLA with just two healthy forwards to start the season.

Other forwards currentlyon the Bruins roster are 6th-year senior Atonye Nyingfa, red shirt junior Rhema Gardner and Swedish freshman Paulina Hersler.

Sophomore guard Kari Korver is also out for the year after tearing her ACL on Sept. 25.
