The University of Central Florida (UCF) Knights Rugby Football Club (RFC) obliterated the University of Miami Hurricanes RFC Saturday afternoon by a score of 119 to 3. This runaway match, played on the grounds of Lorna Doone Park in Orlando, Fla. showcased the Knights’ continued dominance as a rugby powerhouse – not only within the state of Florida, but also across America.
In the game, UCF scored 17 tries and 17 conversions to earn the clubs 119 points. Meanwhile, the Knights’ suffocating defense limited the Hurricanes to just one three-point penalty kick through the entire match. This contest stretched the UCF winning streak to 22 games.
Knights Head Coach Granich speaks with Examiner
UCF Head Coach Jason Granich briefly spoke with the Tampa Bay Rugby Examiner Monday afternoon, and had the following to say about his club:
We are starting to improve week by week. Give Miami some credit they never gave up and honored a B-side game also. We will work hard this week and travel to skin those Gators.
UCF will travel to Gainesville, Fla. Friday evening and take on the University of Florida (UF) Gators RFC in a rescheduled match, originally slated to take place on Sept. 28. Meanwhile, Miami will host the Florida Atlantic University (FAU) Owls this coming Saturday afternoon, Oct. 12, on the Hurricane’s campus in Coral Gables, Fla.
USF Bulls fall to UNF Deadbirds
The University of South Florida (USF) Bulls RFC traveled north and east to take on the University of North Florida (UNF) Deadbirds Saturday afternoon on the UNF campus in Jacksonville, Fla. However, the Bulls ultimately fell to the Deadbirds by a score of 17 to 7.
In the match, UNF limited USF to one try and one conversion (seven points). Meanwhile, the Deadbirds scored three tries and one conversion (17 points) in their winning effort against the Bulls.
Both USF and UNF have bye weeks this Saturday, but each club will compete in the previously mentioned All Florida Weekend Tournament next weekend in Tavares.
Florida Gators slip past FIU Panthers
The University of Florida Gators RFC traveled southward Saturday afternoon to play the Florida International University (FIU) Panthers RFC on the FIU campus in Miami, Fla. In the match, the Gators slipped past the Panthers by a score of 29 to 24.
The Gators scored four tries, three conversions, and one penalty kick to earn their 29 points. Meanwhile, the Panthers scored four tries and two conversions to reach their total of 24 points.
The Florida Gators, as previously mentioned, will host the UCF Knights in a rescheduled match this coming Friday evening in Gainesville. The Panthers will have the weekend off to prepare for next weekend’s All Florida Tournament in Tavares.
