Please note: CHANGE IN VENUE. This month's lecture has been unexpectedly moved to the Gore Auditorium in the Gore School of Business on the Westminster Campus. It is located south-east of the Jewett Center for Performing Arts and is visible from 1300 East.
The Utah Council for Citizen Diplomacy in partnership with Westminster College will continue the 2013-2014 Ambassador John Price and Marcia Price Lecture Series on Tuesday, January 14. The series will feature Dr. Douglas M. Johnston, President and Founder of the International Center for Religion and Diplomacy. Dr. Johnston will lecture about Religion, Terror, and Error: US Foreign Policy and the Challenge of Spiritual Engagement.
Religion plays a huge role in today’s geopolitical landscape. Dr. Johnston believes we need a long-term strategy of cultural engagement utilizing a deeper understanding of how religion forms worldviews and fuels political aspirations. He demonstrates how religious considerations can be included in this country’s foreign policy and how we can be more effective when dealing with religious extremism and its underlying causes.
A distinguished graduate of the United States Naval Academy, Dr. Johnston holds an MPA and a doctorate in Political Science from Harvard University. He spent five years at Harvard where he founded the Executive Program in National and International Security. He is currently serving as President and Founder at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
UCCD’s lecture series is free and open to the public. Dr. Johnston’s lecture is scheduled for Tuesday, January 14 at 7 p.m. in the Vieve Gore Concert Hall, found in the Emma Eccles Jones Conservatory at Westminster College, 1840 South 1300 East in Salt Lake City.
