MLSSoccer.com has named Jose Diaz one of the top ten central defenders of the 2013 SuperDraft. Diaz is a 21-year-old alumni of UC Riverside. UC Riverside's athletics proudly reported his #6 position on the list on their website.
Not many highlanders have been drafted in MLS SuperDrafts unlike their LA, Santa Barbara, and Berkley counterparts. Although, Erasmo Solorzano was drafted in 2007 only to be let go at the end of the season.
He would be considered "local" to Los Angeles as he grew up and went to school not far from where LA Galaxy's Landon Donovan attended. He is not a complete stranger to the LA Galaxy, because he played with their youth team a few years ago.
The last matches of the MLS Combine are taking place the morning of January 15. MLS coaches and staff get one last look at players abilities and begin to decide who they want on their team. They are not only looking for the best players, but players for positions they are lacking after post-season trades and ending contracts.
