Ubisoft to pull support for last gen consoles and Uplay deals this week

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has confirmed that the publisher will no longer support last-generation consoles from 2015 onwards, focusing exclusively on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

Core gamers have flocked to the current generation of consoles so much so that for Ubisoft continuing support for the previous generation has become unviable. The PlayStation 4 alone has shifted more than 10 million units in the eight months since launch, comfortably putting it alongside the Wii in the bestselling console launches of all time. Recent figures disclosed by Ubisoft revealed that the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC accounted for 67% of units sold, showcasing why Ubisoft is so quick to dismiss the 160 million install base for last-gen.

Far Cry 4 is expected to be one of the last games from Ubisoft to develop on previous gen in conjunction with current gen. "What we see is that this year is still fine for the PS3 and 360,” said Guillemot. “But next year because they are selling very quickly, we’ll move to the new hardware. After 2015, it will be hard for us to create games for those systems.”

During the first quarter PlayStation 4 sets itself apart, accounting for 36% of all games sold by Ubisoft on its own. The Xbox One overtaken the Xbox 360 making up a cool 17%, while PC gaming sits at a relative low of 14%.

So this could mean a change for PC gamers. Ubisoft's minimum requirements may possibly be raised with the drop of the current gen exclusive Assassin's Creed Unity, which is supposed to be released on October 28th worldwide for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

While we are on the subject of Ubisoft, they have openly acknowledged certain issues they have when it comes to image and PC gamers. In what appears to be an olive branch they are having a huge sale just for PC gamers via Uplay. This sale offers pc downloads at up to 75% off.
