Ubisoft released the first official trailer for their upcoming digital title, Child of Light, in a blog entry posted earlier this afternoon. Announced at Gamescom, this title was built using the same engine that powered Rayman: Legends, and features side scrolling adventure elements mixed with turn-based combat.
The story follows a girl named Aurora, whose soul has been transported to the magical kingdom of Lemuria. There she finds that the Black Queen has stolen the Sun, Moon and Stars. It is up to Aurora to find these missing light sources and defeat the Queen in order to restore the kingdom. Guiding her along the way is a floating ball of light named Igniculus, who can be controlled by a second player.
These characters play very differently from each other, as there are certain places that Igniculus can travel that Aurora cannot, and their skills in battle vary as well. Aurora uses a sword and magic to attack and defend against her enemies, while Igniculus uses his light source to blind enemies and slow them down.
The game was inspired heavily by fairy tales and epic poetry. The graphics are stylized beautifully to look like paintings, and all dialogue is spoken in rhyme. The combat is classic JRPG and features an active time system, as well as a skill tree that closely resembles Far Cry 3's.
Child of Light is expected to launch for the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U and PC sometime in 2014.
