At E3 2014, Ubisoft brought the grand unveiling of Far Cry 4's main protagonist and antagonist. Now as we stare down the Nov. 18 launch date, new details about what narrative we'll face are starting to emerge.
The firm has stated that some characters from the previous iteration will be making appearances throughout Far Cry 4, but now we know who will not be coming back. Far Cry 4 Creative Director Alex Hutchinson talked about characters we will and will not see.
"Ajay was born in Kyrat, and although he was raised in America, his name is known by most people in the country. He is the son of a famous Kyrati freedom fighter, so his name carries weight, and he is back in some ways to deal with his family’s legacy in the region. Some Far Cry 3 characters will be making an appearance, but not Jason Brody," Hutchinson said.
From what we've heard from Ubisoft so far, Far Cry 4 will feature a narrative that aims more at making players uncomfortable through an apparent association between Pagan Min and Ajay. They know each other and Pagan seems to want to draw him closer into his world, as the trailer we saw at E3 suggested.
Far Cry 4 has also embellished upon the outposts we found in Far Cry 3, among other features. It sounds like Ubisoft is really trying to harness all of the great things they did with Far Cry 3, and make them that much better in Far Cry 4. Hutchinson detailed what he thought was the most unusual feature in the upcoming open-world sequel.
"The wing suit is indeed back, so Ajay will know how to do it, but that’s probably the most unusual or ‘extreme’ feature in the game. We’ve tried to include a lot more local, exotic elements and vehicles like the Tuk Tuk and the elephant this time round," Hutchinson said.
Far Cry 4 will launch on Nov. 18 for PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC. Stay tuned for plenty of more details soon.
