Ubisoft confirms Assassin’s Creed Rogue with first official trailer

Ubisoft has officially announced their second Assassin’s Creed game releasing this fall - Assassin’s Creed Rogue - with the first official cinematic trailer.

Assassin's Creed: Rogue - the second of two new AC games coming Fall 2014.

The announcement came on August 5, 2014 - one day after the trailer was first leaked online as reported by IGN. In the trailer, we are introduced to Shay Patrick Cormac; a former Assassin who abandons the Order and joins the Templars as an Assassin Hunter seeking revenge. While his motivations for revenge remain unclear, Ubisoft promises AC Rogue to be the darkest entry in the series to date as we follow Shay on his journey, according to the official website.

Rumors of the game’s plot and title began to surface as far back as March earlier this year with details such as the game’s possible title – Assassin’s Creed Comet – as well as the main character being a Templar. While the title has proven to be inaccurate, it’s clearly evident that the main character is in fact a Templar; an interesting twist to the franchise.

Being a former member of Assassin Order, Shay will possess many of the same abilities as those he hunts down, including the series staple use of parkour, weapons and tools of the Assassin Order, and even Eagle Vision. AC Rogue will also build upon the naval combat and gameplay from last year’s Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, granting Shay access to three distinctive environments: the North Atlantic Ocean, New York City, and the River Valley, which Ubisoft describes as “a large hybrid setting of the America frontier mixing seamless river navigation and ground exploration”.

Game Informer revealed additional information the following day detailing the time frame in which AC Rogue will take place and to what affect Shay’s story will have on the Assassin’s Creed universe. Game Informer promised even more details to come in their upcoming September issue of Game Informer Magazine.

Assassin’s Creed Rogue will hit store shelves November 11 for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360; just two weeks after Assassin’s Creed Unity which launches October 28 for the Playstation 4 and Xbox One.
