Scientists at UAB have created a new and more effective method to generate organ tissue. The conventional method uses electrospinning to create new tissues. A drawback of this method is that cells that need to penetrate the tissue structure are unable to do so. The UAB researchers have improved the current electrospinning via nanotechnology and adding a third dimension to the tissue structure so that the cells which need to penetrate it are able to do so. This new technology makes regenerated tissues last longer and behave more like authentic tissues within the body.
