UAB was lead in scoring by Elijah Millsap with 20 (Millsap also crossed the 1000 point mark for his career). Howard Crawford added 14. The Blazers also shot a pretty hot 55% for the game, which is pretty good for a UAB team that has struggled with offense at times this season. For Tulane, Kendall Timmons led the way with 13, followed by Kevin Sims with 12. Check out complete stats here.
UAB moves to 23-5 overall with the win over the Green Wave. There has been some talk that UAB might not make the tournament after the Blazers stumbled a bit against UTEP, Memphis, and Marshall. However, the recent wins over Southern Miss, UCF, and now Tulane should give UAB a bit more cushion.
Only two games remain in the regular season for UAB- one against Memphis in Birmingham, and one against #25 UTEP in El Paso. A win in either of those games would probably lock UAB into the NCAA Tourney, but after losing a rare two games at home this season, UAB really needs to defend their home court above all else. A few wins or preferably a championship in the C-USA Tournament would certainly be welcomed- and would guarantee a spot in the dance.
The Blazers take on Memphis this coming Wednesday at Bartow Arena. The game was originally scheduled to be played at 6 p.m. but has been moved back two hours to 8 p.m. due to a request from CSS, who will televise the game.
